The Big Apple in 3 days!

Scott surprised me (kind of) with a trip to New York City for a belated anniversary trip/early birthday present! It was a lot of fun other than the fact that a tropical storm decided to blow thru the area! Of course, the first tropical storm to hit NYC in like 17 years comes on our weekend! We got out the umbrellas and jackets and forged ahead...

The view from our hotel. If the window had been on the other side of the room we could have been looking directly at Times Square. Off in the distance between the buildings is Central Park.

The Rockefeller Building and NBC studios. George Washington on the steps of Federal Hall. He took his oath of office here since NYC was the capital at the time.
A glass building with palm trees growing inside. It looks out over the harbor and Battery Park. We're not real sure what it actually is!

One of the Trump Buildings. This one is downtown on Wall Street. It is not the one they tape the Apprentice at. There are 2 more in Central Park.

At the Twin Towers Memorial, all the badges of the firemen and policemen that have visited the site. There were badges here from all over the world.

St. Paul's Chapel
The World Trade Center was directly behind this chapel. The rescue workers used the chapel to rest and get food. It is now a memorial. The iron fence around the chapel and cemetary was used by those with missing loved ones and friends to hang their pictures. Not a single pane of glass was broken when the towers fell, yet all the buildings around here were heavily damaged.

This sycamore tree was 100 years old and stood on the back corner of the chapel above. It was uprooted when the towers fell and landed about 4 blocks away...

here. In the cemetary of Trinity Church. Miraculously it didn't harm any graves or headstones. An artist did a bronze of the roots and they are standing there now. The original root is back in St. Paul's cemetary and you can see all the debris that was blown into it i.e. iron pieces, pipe, bricks, etc.

The Brooklyn Bridge in front, Verazzano Bridge in the back

Ellis Island

We went to see The Lion King!! It was great!

American Museum of Natural History
Remember "Night at the Museum"??

A life-sized Blue Whale...it's much larger than you imagine
By the time we left we were experts at the subway!

What an exciting trip! I am jealous. I've never been, but definetly want to go. I've told Matt I would like to go on a pizza tour and eat the best pizza in the US...I'll have to try your new favorite :)
